Softer materials clog the fracture gap. The reduction ratio corresponds roughly to the ratio of the maximum width of the mouth to the minimum width of the gap and approaches a value of 1:5 to 1:8. In the case of jaw crushers, distinctions are made in accordance with the principles of design between toggle, single-toggle, beater and hydraulically operated crushers as well as Rotex crushers. This machine also has a return spring and a flywheel. The design of the single-toggle crusher is simpler than that of the blake jaw crusher.
