                                                        “Discrimination”

Discrimination has existed as long as humankind as every race and in group often thought they were better than the outsiders. There are many types of discrimination and I will only discuss five types that are important to me. They are age, disability, national origin, race/color and sexual harassment discrimination. As a minority in the military, these are the kind of discrimination I have had to deal with throughout my career and these are important to me. They are important to me not in a bad way, but I learned a lot about them and what they stood for. I am writing this essay both subjectively and objectively.

        Discrimination in the United States has been around since the beginning of civil war. President Lincoln once said and insisted in May of 1861, that the war was not about slavery or black rights; it was a war to preserve the Union. Most white northerners were not interested in fighting to free slaves or giving rights to black people. And for this reason, the government turned away African American volunteers who rushed to enlist. Black sailors were therefore accepted into the U.S. Navy from the beginning of the war. Still, many African Americans wanted to join the fighting and continued to put pressure on federal authorities. Even when Lincoln was not ready to admit it, blacks knew that this was a war against slavery.
       
        Age discrimination involves treating someone (an applicant or employee) less favorably because of his or her age. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) only forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older. Discrimination can occur when the victim and the person who inflicted the discrimination are both over 40. The law forbids discrimination when it comes to any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions,...
