Did you mention that if you were to take a walk through the neighborhood park twenty years ago you would see happy, healthy children running all around. But if you were to walk in that same park now, you would more than most likely find half the number of children and a good number of them would be considered overweight. Obesity is a terrible illness in children that provokes many problems in their lives. This problem is very common in United States and other western country, some people think that is not important, but in fact we need to be take care of it. Children who are overweight in the future, they will have more health problems than other that normal weight. Have we ever thought what cause this happened? What could we do to help our children?
The causes of obesity are complex and include biological, behavioral and cultural factors. Obesity occurs when the input of energy (food) is more than the output of energy (activity). For example, 3,500 calories equals one pound, so if a child goes over that by 50 to 100 calories a day that means a 5 to 10 pound weight gain in about a year. Twenty years ago, we do not have all those high technology gaming system, we do not have strong Internet network when I was child. So what we do when we were free was having outdoor activities or going picnic with family. But looks now a day, kids were sitting in front the computer all the time at home, playing online gaming, browsing the net or watching TV. In the mean time, most of them does not really care what their eat for lunch or dinner. They are rather to talk to their IPHONE instead of talk to their parent, I mean real talking. This life is built up their poor eating habits and lack of exercise happened.
Also, TV and largest media source of message about food with over 75% of food manufacture’s advertising budgets. Advertisement for fast food chain such as KFC, McDonald is strongly increased in US and Western Country during last 10 year. But...
