The book Animal Farm was written in 1943 in London, England. It was first published on August 17th, 1945, by Martin Secker & Warburg; a year later it was published by Harcourt   Brace and Company in New York. It has 10 chapters, and about 95 pages. It was written by the great George Orwell, who fought in the Spanish civil war of 1936. After the war, Orwell spent most of his time speaking out against communism which is “ A political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs,” (Google dictionary). Animal Farm was written to criticize the events that led up to Russian Revolution. Orwell was a firm believer in his political status and had strong beliefs that communism would be unsuccessful. He wrote Animal Farm to show his readers the stress brought by the Russian Revolution. In Orwell’s essay “Why I Wrote,” he stated that Animal Farm was the first book, “to fuse political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole.” in which he had written with full consciousness and awareness of the matter. In the preface o the Ukrainian edition of animal farm he stated that “It was of the utmost importance to me that people in Western Europe should see the Soviet Regime for what it really was.” Animal Farm tells the story of what happens when the farm animals expel their owner from the farm, and attempt to rule the farm on an equal basis; where each would work according to his capacity. The vision of the animals failed, and the farm resulted in becoming a dictatorship of pigs. George Orwell’s animal farm portrays how power can be abused when it is made available to one with evil intention, which can cause harm to others; Orwell used creativity and imagination to give a story of a historical event in a new way.
