Frankenstein Chapter 5

In this essay I will be discussing what comes across more monstrous in my opinion, victor or his creation. I will be using my own ideas alongside of quotes from the book Frankenstein itself.
In the first paragraph of Frankenstein (chaper5) I very quickly see that victor has created something far beyond his idea of what he wanted to create, a monster. The definition for monster is: any imaginary frightening creature, especially one which is large, strange and ugly.   We can defiantly see that victors creation is monstrous when Mary Shelley writes, ‘I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open’ or when she writes, ‘ His hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriance’s only formed a more horrid contrast’. According to victor his creation is the villain of the book and his features and looks defiantly does make him come across as monstrous.
As I read on in chapter 5 my view on victor changes very quickly and his actions and thoughts make him in my eyes become monstrous. We can see this when Shelley writes, ‘the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart’. I think that if victor would have been kind to his creation then he wouldn’t have turned against victor and kill his family and friends. I can see that Frankenstein didn’t mean any harm   to victor until victor showed all his hate to the creation when Mary writes, ‘while a grin wrinkled his cheeks’ or, ‘one hand was stretched out’. When the monster does this I think of it as a kind greeting, a very not monstrous thing to do but the suddenly victor again acts monstrous and tries to get away from his creation. We can see this when Mary writes, ‘but I escaped, I rushed downstairs’.
To conclude I think that even though victor has created a ‘monster’, victors actions and thoughts make him come across as more monstrous as the monster himself. I think this because victor didn’t even give his creation a chance...
