The overall general mission of the Boys and Girls Club of America is to provide services that facilitate and enable all children, particularly those with less privilege, to reach their highest potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Programs that are implemented to assist in this pursuit include character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, and sports, fitness, and recreational programs that seek to create a well-rounded individual.
To improve upon these goals I would develop several additional initiatives to ensure that the Boys and Girls Club of America can recognize their objectives. These initiatives would entail mentoring and global pen pal programs that focus on developing students into global citizens. The new workforce will require students who have a global perspective and can interact with different cultures and races in the workplace. Therefore, encouraging outreach programs that attempt to allow young people to engage in this pursuit as children will greatly benefit the clubs attempt to ensure that all children become productive citizens within society.
Mentors can serve as vital educators for children by giving them the capability to develop good characteristics displayed by those who mentor the children. Preferably, the mentors should be former members of the club themselves who have exceled through the assistance of programs that they partook in as children. This serves the purpose of allowing children to recognize that their dreams and objectives for the future can be realized if adhering to the main tenets of the program. In addition this provides a good opportunity for the Boys and Girls Club of America to represent their logo and ideals through public relations by advertising their success stories around the globe.
