In their youth, people devote their time, energy and wealth in rearing their children forgetting their present comfort. But when they grow old, their children by now young and strong often ignore them and even snatch their belongings and at times throw them out of their own homes. The elders have their lives of destitute This plight of an elder person is that like of the third world countries exploited and deserted to feed for themselves by the other two world countries (here the young and younger ones). It is precisely for the reason that Maintenance and Welfare of Parent and Senior Citizen Act, 2007 is a crying necessity.
This Act is to remind people that there is a moral duty on their part to take care of their aged parents who sacrificed their present to secure their future. If you chance to pass through the Bank Road, Patna you can come across an old couple who is an advocate, despite of having a huge property in Jehanabad, district of Bihar is forced to live under the open sky deprived of their wealth by their near and dear ones through deceit and are forced to live a life of destitute and no legal help is forthcoming to them.
The government have a large number of schemes and policies which sound very beautiful, but the problems are at the level of their implementation. Official red tapism and inefficiency condition make things difficult. The officials sit tight and muddle through. Unaffected by the plight of the elders they are mindful only of their promotions and salary.
