I was really intrigued with the poem “Mirror” by Sylvia Path it is a very humble piece of poetry. To just take an object such a mirror to make it a living thing with real life thoughts and opinions it takes you into a mystical zone where it makes you think, I wonder if my mirror feels the same way when I take a look. As the poem progresses you can develop a conclusion that maybe the woman in the story is feeling a little down on herself maybe not thinking she is beautiful enough as society sometimes come across to people I plan to explore three elements of literature that relates to this poem. One of the elements I feel Ms. Sylvia used in her Poem of course has to be persona or personification – by taking an object such as a mirror and giving it life, giving it somewhat a human effect, even though it doesn’t express its total thoughts about her looks as real people would, I feel as if the mirror is being her friend. I was always told that a mirror doesn’t lie and what you see is what you get and I feel as if the mirror is being truthful to her. Secondly in this piece a simile being used to show a comparison, at the end when she ends “Rise toward her dad by day like a terrible fish” (Clugston, RW (2010) Journey into Literature) by using the word like some kind of comparison is being made. My third element takes me back to the beginning, where I stated that the mirror represents truth and purity and that relates to the theme of the poem.   The mirror is trying to reveal to the woman possible something that she is ignoring about herself maybe other people have been trying to tell her and she’s not trying to listen to them and maybe the mirror is taking on the task of slowing the woman down so she can look at herself the way she really is that maybe she has been blind all this time to realize. I really loved this poem because it shows are we as humans are so...
