The Event that Shocked the Nation
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States. He was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald on November 22nd, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. The Death of United States president John F. Kennedy was caused by his political views on civil rights, the space race, and the Vietnam War, and it shocked a Nation forever.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29th, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was born to Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. and Rose Fitzgerald, and was their 2nd son. His family came to the United States from Ireland with very little money. After making a name for themselves in Boston by becoming businessmen and Politicians, the Kennedy family thrived. John made his way around the eastern part of the U.S. multiple times when he was in his youth, visiting states such as New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. (Foundation, 2001) He attended Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and majored in Political Philosophy. After college, he became a lieutenant in the United States Navy. He was named the commander of a few small boats that were to fight the Japanese. His boat was damaged by the enemy, so him and the remaining eleven survivors swam to a nearby island and were rescued a week later.
After the war, Kennedy decided to run for political office. He made his way into the U.S. Congress, and later became part of the U.S. Senate. During his long run in the United States Senate, he married Jacqueline Bouvier. In 1957, they had their first child, whom they named Caroline. In 1960, he began his long campaign to become President of the United States. He chose Lyndon B. Johnson to run with him. The soon to be Vice President was from Texas, which is the same State where Kennedy was Assassinated. On November 8, 1960, the youngest democrat to run won the election.
