Sustainable self-sufficient Architecture describes environmental conscious design techniques used by many architects. These sorts of buildings seek to minimize the environmental impact and are designed in a way that it operates without the need of services such as a gas grid, electric grid. Designing sustainable self-sufficient buildings in the world of Architecture is gradually increasing. For my project the brief given was to design a small 27m3 temporary house that is intended to accommodate one person and be self-sufficient in terms of energy and waste. The House has to be constructed within 48hrs and be built by 4 students. This links with the new craze of building small compactable moveable structures. My design has to include all the important necessities that you would expect in a house. In this report I will be looking at all the different ways I can achieve the points in the brief. I will talk you through my construction process, the ways I intend to bring comfort and efficiency to my house. I will describe the numerous ideas I have for services and why I opted for certain ideas.
To start of my design I decided that picking a location would be the best thing to do, I had many different places in mind. I intended to design this house as a retreat for myself, so I wanted some where I knew and found peaceful. I looked at two options, The Priory Gardens which is situated in Orpington, Kent and Cray River which is also situated in St Mary Cray Orpington. I decided on Cray River because I have always loved the lovely cinerary it has among the madness of the town.
