Great Depression essay

From the start of the 1920s, the United States was faced with the rapidly growing problem known as The Great Depression. As the depression prolonged, Franklin D. Roosevelt came up with several economic plans such as the “CCC” The Civilian Conservation Corp. in 1933 to help the people of the United States. The Great Depression effected many groups such as farmers. As these problems became greater, Franklin D. Roosevelt came up with responses to help support the farmers. As these relief and reform efforts continued on, the United States began to be refurbished into the country it once was.
Due to the Great Depression, Roosevelt needed to come up with certain relief programs to help the people of the United States. Roosevelt’s favorite program was the “CCC” The Civilian Conservation Corp. Part of the new deal of Franklin D. Roosevelt the CCC provided unskilled manual labor jobs related to the conservation and development of natural resources. It began it 1933 and ended in 1942. Throughout these years, the CCC provided work for 2.5 million young men between the ages of 18-25 conserving natural resources. The jobs consisted of planting trees, building bridges and parks, and setting up flood control projects. Maximum enrollment at any one time was 300,000. The CCC provided them with shelter, clothing, and food, together with a small wage of $30 a month. $25 of which had to be sent home to their families. The CCC also led to a greater public awareness and appreciation for the outdoors and the nation's natural resources. By the CCC becoming one of the most popular parts of the new deal, it raised high awareness for the development of a program to protect our natural resources. The whole idea of the development of these relief plans, one being the CCC, was to: bring relief for those who were suffering and the recovery of the economy so it would grow again.
