Attending College

They say that turning sixteen, eighteen, and then twenty-one are big steps in life before marriage and kids and a major career. But for me one of the biggest decisions I’ve had to make was attending college. Of course I knew I wanted to attend college but I just didn’t know what my options or chances were for me. I graduated with a GED at the top of my class, but I didn’t know what schools were taking students with a GED’s. To top it all off I came across some pretty steep hills and valleys to attend college.
Right after getting my GED I knew for sure I wanted to go to college. I really wanted the college experience of a dorm room, classes, labs, exams and professors, lectures, and getting to know new people from all walks of life. I look at potential places and not all except GED’s According to "Tempe Union High School District" (2012), “About 95 percent of U.S. colleges and universities accept GED graduates in the same manner as high school graduates.” My test scores were good but not what they wanted. So I started to look locally so that I could still work a job. I found one I really liked so I signed up.
When it came to financial aid I thought I would be okay just take out some loans I was already 21 so why not for my education. I then learned that if you’re under 25 and under certain circumstances the loans would have to go under my mother’s name. That really took a lot on me because at the same time my mother was already attending UPO and already had loans in her name. Therefore she told me no she can’t do it so I gave up my mind on attending school until I either moved out on my own with a good paying job or wait till I’m 25 then go sign up.
This really boggled my mind so first I went home to do some research and find out what my options were on school and getting the loans in my name. I wrote down my options and started my calling list and wrote down my options by each one....
