Guns, Germs, and Steel Book Report
“Many are called but few are chosen”, said Saint Matthews in   Guns, Germs, and Steel. I believe Dr. Diamond perfectly described and supported his argument with evidence from the past and the present. The author not only paints a wonderful portrait of the last thirteen thousand years but, also, explains the concepts in extreme clarity and depth. In spite of that, there is no purpose of writing a book without a purpose, thus, the reason for creating Guns, Germs, and Steel was to answer one simple question with one of the most controversial answers. “Why is it that you white people developed so much more cargo and brought it to New Guinea, but we black people had little cargo of our own?” This was a question specific question to New Guinea but, why did different continents evolve differently than others is how Jared Diamond answers the the question throughout the book.
“Yalis Question,” was a simple question understandable and easily thought of yet, was severely complicated to plainly explain. This inquisition from Yali, called for “ultimate explanations,” and a wide view of the past. There are an immense amount of arguments that could possibly be offered as explanations, however, Jared Diamonds disarms several during his writing and continues to persuasively argue his own conclusion. Dr. Diamond adventures   to the beginning of our civilization to include any slight evidence that could be easily overlooked. Thus, showcasing how small actions, for example, the beginning of human selection, created the world today.
In modern society we have jumped from boom boxes, invented in 1974 by Woelfel Brothers, to iPods, marketed in 2001 from a group of Apple employees, in less than a century. Guns, Germs, and Steel attempts to answer why in some countries have greater technological advantages than others and how that shaped todays world.
