Cholesterol is an essential component of the human cell membrane . However , excessive intake of dietary cholesterol , can lead to atherosclerosis , thrombosis , etc. , and furtherly   causes coronary atherosclerosis ( coronary heart disease ) and other cardiovascular diseases.
