Boundaries between the teaching role and other Professionals.
Boundaries and ground rules are in place to keep us and the learners’ safe, to avoid any incident and to help create a safe environment for learning. As teachers we have lots of responsibilities to our learners and we need to beware of when we can no longer help then, so we need to refer to other professional organisation for assistance.
Boundaries include not being judgmental to any personal issues or fears the learners might have about heir learning.   All information that the learner gives us needs to be kept confidential so that the learner can build a trust with their teacher.
If a learner as a specific learning difficulties or disabilities which again may not have been picked up earlier then this is important that we identified this during the assessments stages as these can be addressed and specialist learning support arranged whether from using an internal or external source.
Example:
If a learner informs you that she was being abuse by her partner than this is something that as a teacher we would not be able to deal with and would have to refer on for help and assistance for this particular learner. This would need to be report to the safeguarding personnel of the department who is trained to deal with the situation as there could be very serious consequences if not dealt with correctly. E.g. need re-housing, medical treatment.
If a learner attends the centre and after completing an initial assessment & diagnostic to which as highlighted that her understanding of English is an area to which we need to address then l would discuss with the learner that this learning environment may not be suitable for then. I would give them the contact details of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) which supports learners who first language is not English as this would be a more suitable learning environment for the learner, where they will receive the support they need to help them work...
