Squanto: A Warrior’s Tale
By: Darlene Craviato

Squanto: A Warrior’s Tale is a book by Darlene Craviato. It is about an Indian named Squanto who is kidnapped by British settlers. In his time in England, he befriends monks and learns English. He eventually escapes back to America and saves the Pilgrims and Indians from slaughtering each other. The author’s message is that bravery and courage can save many lives.

This shows that he wouldn’t leave a person behind and that he would bring his fellow warriors back home. Also, he shows his courage by stepping into a British stadium in enemy territory. This reflects the theme of courage again, because he had the guts to step between to forces of people.

Squanto changed significantly during this story. In the beginning, he was a newlywed and a warrior. In the middle, he discovers the Europeans, and learns how to speak English. By the end of the story, he has new knowledge of a different culture, language, and went from warrior to peacemaker.

In the story Squanto: a Warrior’s Tale, the author’s message is that courage and bravery can prevent many unnecessary deaths of innocent people. Squanto demonstrates this multiple times by first daringly saving his friend’s life, and by stepping between two opposing...
