Story:   Pymalion

Pymalion is a myth from ancient Greece period.   This story tells how a sculptor who fell in love with his own statue that he had made from the finest ivory.   The story begins many centuries ago on an island called Cyprus.   This island lies not far from the lands that we now call Turkey and Syria.   There are snow-capped mountains covered with Cyprus trees in the centre of this island with hot sandy beaches and beautiful clear water surrounding its edges.  

On this island Cyprus, enfolds a story of a man called Pymalion who lived and worked there as a sculptor.   He used to carve statues of God and demigods who frequented the island. Many people admired and loved his statues, as they almost seemed to look so real and life-like.   He was a very talented and skillful sculptor and probably very famous at that time.   He was very dedicated to his work and spent many hours carving beautiful god-like statues as this is his love.  

In ancient times, Cyprus was also famous as the home of Aphrodite, the goddess of love.   Unfortunately, there is a group of women who are rather uppity called the Propoetides refused to acknowledge that Aphrodite is a goddess.   This was absolutely not taken well by her.   In her rage, she robs the women of their sense of shame and value as a punishment.   They begin to prostitute themselves.   Pymalion was totally disgusted with their behavior.   He vowed to ignore all women forever in his life and never to marry one.  

With all the time he had without a woman, he decided to make an ideal woman out of the ivory for himself.   He went to the port and spoke with a merchant.   He ordered the finest ivory from Africa and took several months to arrive.   The brilliant sculptor that he is, Pymalion produces a statue that was extremely life-like and beautiful.   He can’t help smothering her every day and kisses her slightly parted lips.   It felt like she was returning his kisses.   He began to fall in love with his creation.   He...
