Is censorship sometimes justified?
As far as I concern, censorship is merely “sometimes” justified. As we are all surrounded by a world with prevalent temptations, we will need some guidance from time to time. For instance, many entertainment corporations with the intention of maximizing the benefit; produce materials with risqué contents that may lead to a series of drawbacks. Meanwhile, many materials are prohibited to exhibit in the presence of the residents, are judged solely according to the standard of a State’s censorship. Hence, whether censorship is justified or not, is an inquiry based on the standard a State established, and the measurements of estimating the standard.
Censorship is the suppression of potentially harmful materials waiting to be shown to the public. A responsible society should recognize the inappropriate contents those may involve. As well as the political destructions those may cause. Accordingly, the wisest way to avoid turmoil brought by the unexamined ingredients is to filter them out. Thus, one can sit in a movie theater, with popcorns in hand, and enjoy the most up-to-dated blockbuster without concerning the improper elements the movie may contain. Similarly, with such a secured environment of entertainments, parents no longer need to be present at every theater their children go, or to read every book in advance.
