Be Not Afraid of Walking Slowly, Be Only Afraid of Standing Still

Good morning, everyone.

The story of Hare and tortoise impressed us all. Tortoises are well-known for their extremely low speed while hares are good at running. There is no doubt that the hare would win over the tortoise. However, the hare failed. Nobody had expected. The key for the tortoise to win the race was that it walked slowly but never stopped walking. The main reason the hare lost the race was that it stood still. So the story tells us, be not afraid of walking slowly, be only afraid of standing still.

Walking slowly is not terrible as long as we keep walking. Even if we walk only one step for one day, altogether we will walk 365 steps for one year. But if we stand still, we won’t move forward at all. Some people around us might be those who walk slowly and do things with very low efficiency. Others who never walk might mock that, come on, they are just wasting time. They should have stopped it. We cannot see the difference between the two kinds of people in one day. However, after a month, a year, the result will be clear. Those who walk slowly will have made amazing progress. The others will have gained nothing.

Standing still is the terrible thing all the time. Life is like a long journey which is also of a long distance. If we stand still, it is just like we have never finished our journeys, never enjoyed the beautiful sceneries along the journeys, and never moved on. Although we have been in this world, we have never been here actually. If we walk slowly, there is possibility that we can achieve what we want. But if we stand still, we are sure to gain nothing. Standing still means we do not even give ourselves a chance. No chance, no move-on. Accumulation is required in our journey that on no account can we stand still.

So today when we see the result of the race between the tortoise and the hare, we should also see the warning that the hare has given us. Never stand still just like the hare; and never be afraid of walking slowly just like the...
