Strength beyond Appearance
When many people hear the word “strength,” they may picture a body builder. However, the mental strengths that some are able to achieve, are beyond what the muscles are capable of attaining. People gain strength with the many obstacles that they overcome without allowing those same obstacles to defeat them.   There are so many people in history who have been great examples of strength, who are now considered leaders. There are many different ways to gain strength.   When looking at a person’s strength we have to look far beyond their physical appearance and look at their will power.
Whether it is overcoming a heart break, or the ability to pick up the pieces from a traumatic life changing event, the obstacles that one overcomes are the “weights” people figuratively lift to gain strength. The more trials that are faced the easier it becomes to face the next test.   Understanding that there will still be weakness present, but having the capicity to face that weakness is what will allow people to endure. Eleanor Roosevelt could not have said it better when she stated, “You gain strength, courage, and confidence in every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” At time when people feel their weakest is the time to build their strength, never give up and always try harder.
There are many people in our past who have become leaders by showing great qualities of strength. They looked past what was expected of them and wanted more for not only themselves, but also others. An example is the story of Helen Keller. She had to overcome the obstacles of being deaf and blind, while trying to learn.   Helen had to show endurance no matter how frustrated she may have gotten.
