Islam means to submit freely to the commandments and will of Allah. Thus, anyone who submits himself freely to the orders and will of Allah identifies his as a Muslim. Islam is a religious system begun in the seventh century by Muhammad (S.A.W).   Religious concepts and practices include the five pillars of Islam, which are basic concepts and mandatory acts of worship, and following Islamic law, which touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, providing guidance on multifarious topics from banking and welfare, to family life and the environment. The will and decrees of Allah are categorised as beliefs and practices of Islam. Islam teaches that one’s faith must be received through one’s actions. Thus, the beliefs and practices in Islam interrelate with each other. The articles of faith in Islam, sum up Islam beliefs. These exercises of faith are to serve man's spiritual purposes, satisfy his human needs and to mark his whole life with a Divine touch. This is the foundation of Islam. Anyone who has these beliefs as the foundation of faith is a Muslim.
Belief in Allah as the one and only God is the first article of faith in Islam. He is believed to be the Creator of all things. He has no associates and no partners. This belief in the unity and oneness of God is known as Tawhid. It is captured in Qur’an chapter 112, which states that,” Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the eternal, absolute. He begets not, nor was the begotten. And there is none like unto him.”
The next article of faith in Islam is the belief in angels. They are believed to be special beings created from light. They do not have free will. They are sent by Allah to play specific roles in the life of humans. Some of these angels are Angel Gabriel, he sends revelations to the prophets; Angel Mikail sends rain; Angel Azrail, responsible for death; Angel Israfil, the trumpeter, to signal the end of life on earth.
