Explain the value of the multi-professional approach when working with children and parents
The Multi-professional approach means different professionals involved in childcare work together in the best interest of the children. This is to support and meet their needs as well as the parents. This might be staff within the same nursery communicating with one another to make sure that the same tasks are being done or this could be different organizations such as social services, GP, Police, Speech therapist and many more all depending on the situation of the child. A key point of the mulit-professionals approach is the CAF which allows different professionals and agencies to assess a child’s needs so that no information is lost or needs to be repeated.
According to Children & Young Peoples Work Force by Penny Tassoni on pg: 173 “the aim of the CAF is to ensure an early identification of children and young peoples additional needs and ensure that agencies work together to meet them. This common assessment is general and is meant to be accessed by all early years’ practitioners and improve communications between them”
It is important for a multi-professional approach to be in place to be able to meet all the children’s needs and abilities for their well-being and for them to be able to reach their full potential for later life. It also safeguards all the children in the setting. In my setting we have a speech therapist that comes in to work with one of the children in the per-school, and works along side with the supervisor of the room and the child’s parents to help the child reach their full potential. The Multi-professional approach is not only for a child’s learning needs but it is also for a child’s safety, health and care needs, they must consider the whole being of the child. Its also helps the practitioner improve their teaching and ways of doing things as they are learning from the other professions of how they do things and deal with things.
