Why You Should Spay and Neuter Your Pet

Would you want your dog’s puppies to end up in a shelter, out on the streets, or worst yet, euthanized? How about your cat’s kittens?   I’m sure you wouldn’t. That’s why it is extremely important to spay or neuter your pet. Spaying or neutering your pet will help it and you in more then one way.



How does it help you? First, spayed and neutered pets are better companions then pets that have not been spayed or neutered. Neutered cats are less likely to mark territory, roam, try to get out, and get into fights. Spaying a female dog or cat completely eliminates its heat cycle, which in dogs can last twenty-one days twice a year, and in cats can last anywhere from three to fifteen days, three or more times a year. And this is good for you because females in heat often attract unwanted males, and cry constantly. Pets that have not been spayed or neutered are more easily angered and are more likely to bite then spayed or neutered animals.

Now how does it help your pet?   The first and most important one is that spayed and neutered cats and dogs live longer, healthier lives! Almost every single person who has ever had or has a cat or dog would want that. Spaying your female cat or dog totally eliminates the chance of uterine or ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the chance of breast cancer. And, again, neutered cats and dogs are less likely to roam and get into fights. Male dogs and cats that have been neutered have less of a chance of getting prostate cancer.
