Water is a colourless, odourless compound consisting of hydrogen and oxygen. Water covers about three-quarters of the Earth's surface in solid form and liquid form, and is prevalent in the lower atmosphere in its gaseous form, water vapour. Water is an unusually good solvent for a large variety of substances, and is an essential component of all organisms and being necessary for most biological processes. These show that water is an important substance in humans’ daily life. Although 70 percent of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, only 2.5 percent of this water is fresh and can be used by humans. All peoples are using water from the same infinite supply. Hence, the challenge facing water supply problems are at the exponential rate due to the waste of water that increased dramatically.
Nowadays, water supply is lacking in some area such as Australia, North Jakarta and Phenom Penh. This is due to the human population that increase sharply and causing the rate of pollution also increase. Next, massive urbanisation and increase used in domestic, agricultural and industrial sectors also results to the lessen of clean water supply on earth. In addition, the leakage problem in water pipe system was another contribution to the loss of unused water. Furthermore, there were corruptions occur in the water sector. According to World Bank, 40 % of water sector finance was lost to dishonest and corrupt practices. Due to those reasons, some of ever-increasing urban population faced a big problem due to the lack of water. These show that we are moving up a blind alley. For example is Australia, the driest continent on the globe. More than 66 % of the state of New South Wales has been declared drought-stricken. The citizens in some country town are prohibited from washing their cars and refilling a swimming pool without a permit was illegal while residents in Canberra were forbidden from watering the lawn or washing windows.
