Stop in the name of learning! Is your school a safe and fun place to attend? If it’s not, there is a solution.   School uniforms are a great way to better a school. Many people feel school uniforms are a bad choice, while others feel it should be mandatory. With violence still a problem in many schools, there is definitely a need for an environment better prepared for learning. School uniforms should be enforced in schools. They can reduce crime, create a better learning environment, and better a school system. Though school uniforms have been a major debate between school boards and parents,   many people are starting to realize the benefits of having uniforms at school.
Reduce Crime
In many schools today, gangs are created all the time. Those who supports school uniforms say that the use of uniforms may reduce the presence of gang-related crime in schools, as gangs often use colors and clothing to identify themselves, provoking conflict between rival groups ( Chittom 1). Gangs tend to generate an uneasy atmosphere for many students. According to a manual on school uniforms that recorded information from sixteen thousand school districts nationwide, it reported that by school uniforms, there was a reduced number in suspensions, fights, substance abuse, weapons in school, gangs, and battery against teachers. Lower gang activity would result in many students feeling safer.   In some cases, members of gangs could use baggy clothing to hide weapons or drugs. Thus, causing an un-easy feeling among some students. With the rule of school uniforms, gang members would feel obligated to wear the school uniforms. As one school principal put it, “Gang members don’t wear plaid” (Dress for Success 1) Gangs can
threaten the student body of school. For a safer feeling at school, school uniforms are the way to go.
