I have been pursuing David Caine for two years now. He has been the subject of my obsession without even knowing it. I have been with him for every meal he ate, film he watched and person he slept with. I have seen him more clearly than he ever saw himself, through the red target circle on my CB-900 sniper rifle.
“Why did you do it?” interrogated Detective Riley. It’s always the same question that I have answered thousands of times before. “As I’ve said previously, I wanted my retribution.”
Two years ago, my wife and I were driving home after a very enthralling baseball game. We stopped for a quick meal to eat at our favourite Mexican restaurant, but what was supposed to be an expeditious stopover, turned out to be the most terrifying experience of my life. David Caine selected my wife, Maria, to be his hostage while he pillaged the restaurant for all valuables. I gave him everything I had, but that psychopath chose to end her life anyway. Maria was my life, but now that she was gone, I was left devastated and David Caine filled in the voids of my loneliness.
I stood witness in court for the next thirteen months that the trial continued, but that murderous lunatic managed to slide under the laws of the state scot-free with his lawyer pleading innocent as there was no hard evidence linking him to the unforgivable crime. This unjustifiable turn of events drove my anger to hurt him even more.
The next eleven months had me planning my revenge. After many inconspicuous attempts to seek my vengeance, I’ve seen him marry and become a father to a set of boy twins. It was as plain as a pikestaff that his family which he obviously adored knew nothing of his deplorable history.
I realised that if I postponed my reprisal anymore, then I’d never be satisfied. So, in the morning of Sunday, 14 February, when the happy couple were enjoying their feast of love over breakfast, I got out my polished CB-900 sniper rifle, perched on the roof of a nine-storey...
