The Sources of Loneliness
Loneliness often affects people differently.   For some it makes them do rash and unthinkable things.   Others deal with it perfectly fine.   In Kate Chopin’s The Story of an Hour, William Faulkner’s A Rose for Emily, and James Joyce’s Eveline all have similar theme of loneliness with all the protagonists in the short stories.   The protagonists of all three short stories have feelings of loneliness do to their families, which in turn causes them to do uncouth actions.  
In Kate Chopin’s Story of an Hour centers around Louise Mallard.   She is a woman who “was afflicted with a heart trouble”(Chopin).   In the end of the short story she died from what the doctors say of “heart disease – of joy that kills.”(Chopin).   What Louise really suffered was of loneliness.   In the story we find out that she never really loved her husband only sometimes.   Her heart was sad because it was not free.   Much like a wild animal being trapped behind a cage.   She expressed her desire for freedom several times.   Upon hearing of her husbands death she wept and then unexpectedly ran to a private room where she said under her breath repeatedly: “ free, free, free!” (Chopin).   Her husband was the source of her loneliness.   Though they were together he more than likely domineered her causing the feeling of loneliness.   She stated “Free! Body and soul free!” (Chopin) which should you how happy she was because she believed her husband to be died.   This proves the fact that her loneliness was caused by her husband, because she was overwhelmed with joy with the news of his death. Which in turn leads to her death when she saw him at the door.   Much like a prisoner who would rather die then go back to person her heart gave out because it was going to be forlornly once again.
