THE STRAIGHT STORY

The Straight Story is a tragic movie of David Lynch. This film touches people’s heart and make them cry, because the story comes from our own lives. It is so simple, but it is so intensive..

Alvin Straight is an old man who went to The Second World War. His daughter Rose has stammer. They share a simple life. One day, Alvin hears that his brother whom Alvin hasn’t talked for ten years had a stroke. Alvin can’t drive a car because of his disease. So, he starts a long journey to see his brother by a lawn mower at the age of seventy three!

Determination, hope, experience, survival, love and joy are themes of this movie. An old man whose life has been spent on long roads.. One day, someone from the group of people who ride bikes on Alvin’s way asks him “Well then, what is the worst aspect of old age?”. He answers “It is remembering that you were young before..”. He knows what he must do and he just does it with all his hope. Also he transfers his experiences to the young people he meets on his way. Being a family is the most fascinating thing in the world. If we haven’t got love, hope, family and friends, how can we survive on long and difficult journey with our lawn mowers?!

Life is complicated, but it is a “straight story” for people who don’t forget looking at the stars..
