"In what what does Akutagawa compel the reader to think." Use two quotes supporting your response.

Akutagawa compels the reader to think how deceitful the people can be. In A Grove shows how even the ones you love can hurt you. Masago, Takehiko’s wife was cenacle for bringing her husband in that situation. It shows how society can’t always be trusted. You can only rely on yourself to accomplish and do things. Takehiko trusted his wife and ended up dying.
Akutagawa took Masago who seemed innocent and she turned against her husband. She lied in the interview and she created the illusion that she “cared” and “loved” her husband. “That instantaneous look of my husband, who couldn’t speak a word, told me all his heart” (pg.25, In A Grove, Rashomon). In this quote it shows how she made it seemed she cared and was going to help her husband. It shows how even your loved ones can hurt or trick you.
Takehiko trusted and loved his wife. Seeing her with another man hurt him. He was filled with rage and jealousy. The thing that really crushed him is when she wanted him dead. She played an act for him and then tore his heart right then and there. In a sense he was dead right at that moment. “I am lost in space, but I have never thought of her answer without burning with anger and jealousy. Truly she said,…”(pg. 29, In A Grove, Rashomon).
Takehiko couldn’t believe she could do that to him. He had to die then live with this lie she had been telling him. He was hallucinated by her beauty and didn’t truly see it until it came out of her mouth. When people deceit you, lie and disguise their true colors it can impact a person. That is why you can’t just trust anyone. Everyone has to be careful and watch out whom they trust.
Thus, the effect of all this was caused by the samurai’s wife. She was only looking out for herself and her reputation. She didn’t want anyone to know her shame. She was willing for her husband to die, instead of having a bad reputation. This...
