For this fashion and textiles project, we were given the theme 'things in motion'. I was told to explore a range of media, techniques and process within the specialist area of printed textiles. From using this title I followed a number of different steps enabling me to complete my final piece which had to be due for the 25th of November.
Whilst making my project I have learned a lot of new skills for example: sewing and making garments, creating patterns and prints. I have managed to think of a new ideas also what   haw to tie dye, monoprint, screen print, make a stencils, also how to work in a team.
First printing process which we has been introduced to was mono printing. By working with them I have realized that this particular technique allows considerable freedom in the approach to the imaginary. By working with prints I could decide what materials and techniques to use, for example brushes, fingers or roller, those techniques are called positive. On the other hand working negatively means that the ink is removed by hands, rags, cotton, snub or anything pointy like I have used in my prints at most of all the times. Going through the understanding of printing process I’ve also realized that creating monoprints is not as easy as it seems like. It requires good skills and spontaneity. I’ve also learned how to combine with the techniques. For example when an image is printed heavily a good way to improve the print is by making a second impression, which is called a ghost print. It is made by placing a clean piece of paper over the just printed monoprint. This technique takes away the color and gives a lighter impression.
Second process to which our class has been introduced to was batik. It is considered to be one of the oldest and most known techniques to create pattern on fabrics. To make batik a piece of cotton preferably is needed. Next up I’ve painted over the design with wax using tjantings making sure that the wax penetrates the fabric...
