It is often thought   /

The Earth's orbit is eliptical - so it is sometimes closer to the sun than at other times.   And some people may think this is what causes the seasons, but it is not correct. If that were the case, then the whole planet would experience summer at the same time, and winter at the same time.   But when it is summer in the northern hemisphere, it is winter in the southern hemisphere.

the reason for seasons is the tilt of the earth   /
The tilt of the earh is very important because it creates the differences between the Northern and Southern hemispheres seasons.
The seasons are caused as the Earth travels in a loop around the Sun each year. Summer happens in the hemisphere tilted towards the Sun, and winter happens in the hemisphere tilted away from the Sun.   Because the Earth's point stays in the same direction and Earth travels around the Sun, the hemisphere that is tilted towards or away from the Sun changes.
The hemisphere tilted towards the Sun has longer days and shorter nights. That’s why days are longer during the summer than during the winter
Because of the tilt of the earth, not every place on earth gets light every day. As well as this some places have extremely short days.

Direct and indirect sunlight   /

Diagram of Indirect SunlightDiagram of Direct Sunlight
When one hemisphere leans more toward the Sun, it receives more direct sunlight while the other hemisphere receives more indirect sunlight. If the Suns rays hit the Earth more directly they are more intense and it becomes hotter, whereas if the rays hit at more of an angle they are less intense and it becomes colder.   This is because more rays are scattered than if they hit directly.
If the Earth did not orbit the Sun, the amount of direct or indirect light each area receives would never change and we would all be stuck in the same seasons forever.
when the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun, the angle of sunlight is...
