Many people fear carnivores, especially big cats like the cheetah. No animal can out run a cheetah because it is the fastest animal in the world but, ironically even though they are fast, they are rapidly becoming extinct. Cheetahs rely on healthy habitats and a good source of food to survive. Even though these are important, there are other factors leading them to extinction.
Cheetahs normally eat meat because they are omnivores, but also eat fruits. A cheetah can eat many kinds of prey. For example they eat antelopes, hares, game bird and larger animals like giraffes. Everyday a cheetah needs to eat at least six pounds of meat. When a young cheetah is six weeks old the cheetah has enough strength to hunt. Cheetahs have a diverse diet but, mostly eat meat.
Cheetahs grow in variety of areas with lots of land and prey. Cheetahs live in variety habitats such as the grassland, savannas and dense vegetation. The cheetahs usually live in east Africa in open land. For example Namibia is a place for the cheetahs to live .The males live in groups and the females live by themselves. There are less than 10,000 cheetahs in the world. Cheetah lives in lots of area in Africa like Namibia.
The Cheetah population is decreasing at this moment. The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) is helping the cheetahs survive but, endangered by the United States. Two decades ago the population was 100,000, now it’s 10,000. 12,000 years ago cheetahs had to inbreed with each other so then their genetics had unusual low variability. Today the genetics pool is very small. The real reason why the cheetahs are becoming extinct is because of their genetics.
No animal is faster than a cheetah because they are the fastest animal in the world. Cheetahs need a good habitat to live. They also need a good source of food to eat. But absurdly they are becoming extinct.
