Macbeth Reflection Paper

      Having a moral center helps guide people to see the rightness and the wrongness in a situation. This moral center give people the opportunity to stay focused on the right path than to roll over and give yourself up to a wrong decision. In the play Macbeth both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth start with a strong moral center but choose to obliterate this moral character through tough decisions. When Macbeth and his wife choose to ignore their moral centers, they allow their feelings and emotions to take over and guide them down a path they may not have wanted.
      The first test of Macbeth’s moral center was when Macbeth was conceived by the witches who were hypnotizing Macbeth about a prophecy in which he became the king of Scott Land. He first realized that he had to kill the current leader of Scott Land at the time, Duncan. “If it were done when ‘tis done, then were well it were done quickly, If th’ assassination up the consequence and catch with the surcease success…” (1.7.1-4). Macbeth’s moral center was put to the test and he went against a strong powerful man at that time would have choose. He allowed the witches to mess with his feelings and mind and drove him into a hole that was too deep and complicated to get out of.
      The second test of Macbeth’s moral center was he got killing hungry and went after his partner in combat. “This have I thought good to deliver thee, my dearest partner of greatness, that thou might not lose dues of rejoicing by being ignorant of what greatest is promised thee” (1.5.10-13). Macbeth’s moral center is being tested here by deciding whether to murder his greatest partner who is air to the thrown to become king himself. This is asking Macbeth to kill the friendship and the relationship he has with his partner, Banquo, in order to become one step closer to king of Scott Land.
