In the book, “Go Ask Alice”, a diary of young teenage girl is written, who was on the unpopular side school, and somewhat of an outcast moves with her family because her father got a new job. She becomes more of an outcast at her new school until she becomes best friends with a girl named Beth. Soon summer comes and Beth goes off to summer camp, while Alice goes to live with her grandparents, there she meets up with an old friend named Jill and they go to a party, where Alice unknowingly takes LSD. She has an amazing drug trip, and starts using all different types of drugs which leads her to lose her virginity while on acid. Later, Roger an old crush of Alice comes over to visit her grandpa who had a heart attack, she flirts and kisses Roger, but feels guilty about loses her virginity. She thinks she may be pregnant, and wants to talk to someone about   her drug problems, but doesn't know who. She returns home and has trouble sleeping, so she went to see her doctor who prescribed her with some sleeping pills and finally tranquilizers.

I believe that marijuana is a gateway drug, because many people especially teenagers try and began to use marijuana, and then move on to stronger and more addictive drugs. In this story, after Alice accidentally has a drug trip with LSD, she intentionally begins using other drugs and once that isn't enough for her, she starts trying harder drugs. From my own personal experience, I’ve actually had friends who have tried marijuana and continuous did it for a couple months. He was doing okay on marijuana and then starting trying other drugs, and became so addicted to them that he even stopped using marijuana anymore because it didn't give him the expected drug trip he wanted.

Studies show that marijuana can be referred to as a gateway drug, because   individuals that use marijuana as teenagers are increasingly more likely to try and use other more intensive drugs as they get older. A study...
