Responding to Terrorism Together
Terrorism is a strategic crime and holy duty, a reaction to power and an inexcusable abomination, (Terrorism Research, 2012). We as Canadian citizens, along with the Canadian government need to work together to protect ourselves and our country from any form of terrorist attacks. We Canadians need to ensure that our voices are being heard by members of the Canadian government. We need to increase our intelligence and gain a better understanding of the threats that we face. As a country, it is important for us to vote more women into parliament to help eliminating terrorism, and protecting our county. We must work together to ensure our protection as a country against terrorist attacks.
To begin with, we as Canadians need to become more aware and knowledgeable about terrorism and potential terrorist attacks against our country. Canada has a strong alliance with The United States, which increases the risk of potential terrorist attacks against our country, (Evans, et al, 2002). In order for us to become aware of potential threats we need to understand why terrorism occurs. I believe terrorism can occur for a number of reasons including religion and political views. Some may suggest that there is a strong correlation between terrorism and religion, and I would have to agree. According to David Gibson (2011), "there is a surprisingly wide range of scholarly opinion about the connection between faith and violence." In some countries people believe that they are participating in acts of terrorism because it is what God what have wanted or they are doing it for God. After the 9/11 attacks against The United States,   Brad Hirschfield states "There is a long history of hate and violence being done in the name of God." I believe that some people have such a strong belief in their religion that if they make choices, such as becoming involved in acts of terrorism, that their God will deem it acceptable.
