When people succeed it is because of the hard work, however luck has a lot to do with it too. Success without some luck is almost impossible. The French Emperor Napolean said of one of his general, ”He   is good. But is he lucky?”He too believed that hard work is very important but only hard work cannot make for bad luck. However, hard work can invite good luck.
When it comes to success it means being in the right place at right time, and having right skills to get a job done. It might be turning down an offer and having a better offer come along. Nothing can replace hard work but it is preparing oneself for opportunity. Opportunity very often depends on luck.
Many important inventions and discoveries are the result of lucky mistakes or lucky chance. One of the greatest example was the discovery of America by Columbus who set his voyage to discover India. This is how people come to know that the Earth is round, however his discovery was not pure luck. It was backed up years of studying amid calculating .He worked hard to prove his theory that the Earth is round.
Success that comes from pure luck and no hard work can be a real problem. For example, consider a teenage girl who got stardom by chance because of her good looks. But due to lack of hard work she knows very well how much she deserves and how long it is going to stay. Whereas the one who grilled herself with hard work and learning of all the required skill when get opportunity will able to handle with great sense of commitment as she know she earned it.
People who work hard help make their own luck by being ready when opportunity knocks. When it comes to success I think hard work and luck go hand in hand.
