What is Sony ?
Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering
Corporation was founded at Tokyo in 1946 by two
men : Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita.
The company changed her name for « Sony » in
1958.
The origine of the word Sony : It’s a combinaison
of one word « sonus » and an expression « sunny
servant boy ».

The beginning of success
In 1954 T.T.E.C. obtained a licence for the
manufacture of transistors.
They marketed the first Japanese transistor, the
following year, the first radio entirely equiped
with transistors were product.
It’s the start of the success for Sony with the
radio and future products, and it is the beginning
of the main policy of the entreprise : The policy of
Innovation
