Monday we had our first ever annual Archdiocese of Summerisover Convocation of Schools. Can you believe it was the first? Anyway, it was a lovely day, both in the great weather and the activities. It was held in this diocese, so most of us from St. J (as well as all the other teachers from outlying Catholic schools) rode the Metro into the city. It was funny to see the looks on the faces of all the regular train commuters when hundreds of middle-aged white women descended on the train; and the relief when we all got off!

So the morning was spent in mass (imagine that in public school), which was actually very nice. Lots of singing. The Bishop was adorable; 3 feet tall, dressed to kill, in his fancy red hat and robe, waving his gold stick and smiling at everyone as he walked by (Maddie says he was blessing us, but what do I know).

We got an hour and a half for lunch, and since the convention center was at the Harbor we had a lot of nice restaurants from which to choose. My friends and I went to La Tosca, which is a Spanish Tapas restaurant. It was fantastic. We sat outside on the veranda in the shade overlooking the harbor, and there was a lovely cool breeze. We drank Sangria, ate delicious tapas for 90 minutes, and then returned to the convention center for an afternoon of educational motivation.

While everyone was milling around waiting for the afternoon speaker to start, the sound system was playing “Play that funky music, white boy.” There was dancing, and singing, and groovin’ to the music…

Today is in-service: I can’t wait to see how that goes!
