Current Event: Recent Washington Redskins trade

On Monday morning there was a proposed trade received to the Washington Redskins that involved a player to be named later on in the evening. The proposed trade was later released to the press that involved now former Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb will be traded to the Minnesota Vikings for a sixth round draft pick, and a conditional sixth round pick. The Vikings drafted a quarterback in this year’s past draft from Florida State University’s it seemed as if Minnesota was going to start its rookie Christian Ponder, but after this trade it seems impossible. Ponder tweeted earlier today that he wants to be McNabb’s teammate and thinks he can benefit from the veteran’s presence. He then added that he wants to prove he’s better than McNabb in training camp this summer, which starts later this weekend.
Last season despite his struggles, the Redskins gave McNabb, who will turn 35 in November, a five-year contract extension nominally worth seventy-eight million dollars, but the only thing it guaranteed was that the quarterback would receive an extra three and a half million dollars last season. The deal contained a trade-clause that allows the Redskins to cut McNabb before this upcoming season with no further financial problems. In his previous seasons, he led the Eagles to three conference championship games despite a terrible receiving core, and in 2004, with the addition of Terrell Owens, helped the Eagles reach the Super Bowl where they lost to the New England Patriots. I hope that now McNabb is gone, young quarterback John Beck will lead the Washington Redskins to the promise lands.
