Politics Essay

Politics is all about change. Change is very difficult for majority of people. Changes in Politics can occur through managing change, resisting change and forcing change in many ways and by any one whether you are a politician or a member of a public.  

Pressure groups is a great example of forcing a change in Politics although it is difficult to come up with an overall conclusion as we have many different groups with many different aims, compositions and methods to force government to take a desired action. An example of how Pressure groups can force a change in Politics is when in 2008 Fathers For Justice dressed as superheroes scaled a Foreign Office balcony overlooking Downing Street. This was remembered by people and gained plenty of public attention therefore, the government had to do something about their cause as they were now in the public eye. This lead the people in charge to hold a meeting about this and the outcome was that "What we have recently put forward   proposals that will give children much more time with both their parents - the non-resident parent as well as the resident parent." This was stated by women's Minister Patricia Hewitt. A more recent example is of New Fathers For Justice pressure group “Equal Rights for Great Dads” when in May 2012 local elections they dressed up as a Superhero to influence people to vote for the candidate they considered putting forward for this November's Bristol Mayor Election “Vote Batman For Bristol Mayor? Who could be better for this post than a crime fighting superhero?”. Government can also force change upon public through legislations. For example how The law for Smoking Ban was introduced and how government forced people to stop smoking even though the majority of the public had no intentions of stop smoking but they had to due to the new law enforced. So we can analyse from this how a pressure group can influence and force the government to change legislations and how government can...
