My Life in Ancient History

It was the year 1,000 BCE when I first opened my eyes and began to see all of the wonders of the world. I was born to a young mother and an important father in an area that would now be known as central Scotland. We lived with a small band of people and we traveled often, following the hunt with the seasons. Life as a young boy was good there, but it was short. Before I was even at the age of puberty, it was a requirement to face the trials to become a man. My father was the head hunter of our group and he had quite the reputation to uphold and thus, my journey was more rigorous than that of others.
There is one location that comes to mind when thinking of the past. When I was nineteen, we settled in area near a lake. Our main camp was in a small clearing of a forest; the woods were thick and made for great hiding while hunting. The water from the lake was fresh and only a few minutes from the camp. We called the area ‘Orcadian’, and I guess the name stuck. That same area is now known as an area part of the Orcadian Lakes of the Old Red Sandstone in Scotland. Of all the areas that I lived, that was by far my favorite.
Every summer we had the ‘Big Hunt’. Every man in the tribe would spend a week preparing for the hunt. We would all set out at the same time, about dawn, and then separate. We would then spend the next three weeks hunting, on our own, only surviving on what we ourselves hunted. Whoever came back with the most bounty would be considered the most dominate male in the tribe until the next seasons hunt. I only won once and I preferred it that way. The entire year, everyone is looking up to you and expecting answers to get us out of binds that are impossible.
My mother was the best woman in the tribe and was greatly adored by all. She was always worried about everyone and never about herself. I still have the winter clothes...
