FREEDOM OF MANKIND

You shall cherish the glow of the sunset sky and a young moon appearing beneath the clouds. You shall listen to the chirping of the evening birds and the river flowing with a gentle calm. It’s a marvellous sight but to give it full attention and to observe it keenly one’s mind must be free from all kinds of worries, anxieties, preoccupations and speculations. Only when one’s mind is free in the best sense of the term one can really observe and enjoy the splendid beauty. In this matter lies a clue to the problem of freedom, the freedom of human mind.
Some people consider freedom to be a synonym of democracy. Others believe that it is an opportunity to act freely and embody ideas. There are also those who are sure that it is a possibility to do what they want regardless of the impact their actions will have on other people. A prisoner thinks that freedom is a life out of prison, where you decide everything on your own. For me, freedom is an absence of pressure and enforcement from other people. It is the right to live, to laugh, to be happy as long as I don't infringe on someone else's right to live. To be free, the freedom to do whatever I want as long as it’s in civil boundaries. To follow happiness, without a restriction from putting out the effort or making the sacrifices I need to, in order to be happy, as long as my actions are not preventing someone else in their efforts to do the same. It is a very wide notion, which every person understands differently and there can hardly be one common opinion.
Mere independence does not mean freedom. Many are independent but only a few are free. You know that you should not do a certain thing but still you can’t stop yourself from doing that which is wrong. One of the key implications of freedom is intelligence. It comes to one when one understands the various aspects of one’s environment. Environment is of many kinds, such as, social, religious, parental and a host of traditional influences. One...
