Abstract
Living in a world of technology change, e-commerce offers many benefits such as the diffusion of information, the development of new technologies, the promotion and sales of product and services, and the collaboration between businesses in a supply chain. The objective of this research project was to investigate some of the effects of e-commerce technology with regard to the e-commerce adoption within airline industries. E-commerce technology provides effective and efficient ways in which corporate buyers can gather information about available services and implement order fulfilment over communications links. This research was focused on some of the airlines operating in South Africa such as South African Airlines (SAA), British Airways, Kulula.com, 1time and Nationwide. Issues under consideration included understanding what effect e-commerce technology have on airline industry growth, the advantages and disadvantages of e-commerce, e-commerce as a businesses strategy and how users are adopting to e-commerce.
