American’s Should Support Hybrid Cars

Abstract
The invention of hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) has served the dual purpose of fuel economy and the growing demand for less polluting vehicles. The vehicles that run on gasoline incur high fuel costs for customers and the electric vehicles involve high initial investment, as they are much costlier. To deal with the situation, automobile manufacturers have invented the hybrid electric vehicle that runs on both gasoline and with electric motors. Despite being in the market for the last ten years, hybrid cars still account for less than 2% of all new car sales. Demand for hybrid cars are likely to increase significantly because of fuel efficiency with the price of gasoline increasing at an alarming rate.

Hybrid and electric cars are popping up everywhere and many Americans maybe wondering what are hybrid cars? A hybrid is very similar to the gasoline powered automobile most people drive today, the big difference is the hybrid also uses batteries as part of their power supply. Because of the unique features of these cars and its popularity among owners, several major automakers are following Toyota and Honda by producing their own hybrid model. This is starting a hybrid revolution whether it's for a sedan, SUV, or truck. Hybrid cars have been around for many years and with automotive company’s pouring billions of dollars into research and development each year do not be surprised to see one of the vehicles sitting in the driveway next door in the future. Currently, the United States consumes 19.6 million barrels per day, of oil, which is more than 25% of the world's total.  As a result, the U.S produces one fourth of the world's carbon emissions.  Despite predictions that the U.S. will exhaust the supply of oil in as little as forty years, the demand is on the increase, and is predicted to continue increasing because of the ever increasing cost of...
