This article is of interest to me because my deceased husband was a United States naval officer. He passed away November 23, 2006, and I buried him in the rest lawn cemetery because that is where my family is laid to rest. Three people were buried in the wrong graves at the national cemetery and it was all because the bookkeeping was erroneous.
After a full report was issued, that is when they noticed that this could affect more than 300,000 people. They notified the families and had received over 1,000 phone calls once they started opening up the graves, they realized they had a problem but, when the fourth grave was exhumed, at the request of a father the body was in place, glory be to God.
The investigation was led by the cemetery’s two civilian leaders who would be forced to step aside, and appoint a new chief to conduct a more thorough investigation to sort out the mix-ups.
Each year four million people visit this Arlington cemetery and more than 300,000 remains, remain there this includes people all the way back from the Civil War, as well as the U.S. presidents and their spouses and other officials.
In closing, I feel the article detailed the story truthfully based upon the information officials are aware of; so therefore I don’t believe information was left out of the article. I think that they as government officials should be more careful about their bookwork as well as the cemetery organizing burials. For me I am glad that I did not bury my husband out there because that could have been me, I can sympathize with families because, I don’t know what I would have done to have to relive that over again.
