News Desk: Media has occupied a place of immense importance in today's society. From the recent Anna Hazare episode to candle light vigil march for Jessica Lal case media has done a lot more than just providing News. Media today is making the world smaller.

 

Media plays a key role in forming people's opinion creating awareness amongst people and to quite an extent helps bring justice to society. Life practically is unimaginable without the media.

 

The fight against corruption, for example, has been largely fueled by the media. The recent 2G spectrum scam, Adarsh society scam, CWG scam all were brought to public notice and brought the politicians under scrutiny by the onus of media.

 

But, on the other hand media has it fair share of negatives. One of them, being the intense commercialization of the news channels in order to gain viewership and rake in money.

 

News channels compete fiercely to increase their TRP's and sometimes end up over emphasizing on items like Rakhi Sawant or Salman Khan's marriage plans. This reduces their stature to mere entertainment channels.

This emphasizes on the attempts by the media to capture the viewer's attention through glamourising minor accidents and create situations of anxiety and suspense.
