Safety


      Every year there are numerous accidents in construction happening around the world (Zhang, n.d.). Safety is a management issue that typically is carried out after project design has been completed.



Accidents


An accident is defined as an undesired event that has carried out its consequences, which produces negative outcomes, ranging from physical harm and/or property damage (Holt, 2006). Safety in construction is considerably momentous. Lack of safety can result in numerous of accidents causing human suffering, weaken morale and enhance the issue of prosecution and civil claims; hence this will swell expenses and cause adverse publicity.

The Health and Safety Executive (2010/11) announced in the current research findings that construction industry is one of the main contribution to the highest fatality rates in Great Britain, where it accounted for a total of 9 percent. The issue of ill health rates, particularly in industry sectors, is soaring drastically compared to human health and social work activities, and defense (HSE, 2010). Correspondingly, the hazard of construction industry can be seen in the incident caused by a cradle swinging from the top of The Shard Tower after being hit by a gust wind (Daily Mail Reporter, 2012).   As followed by the incident, ten firefighters were sent to the Shard tower, days before its official ceremony to fix up the problem. The cradle was being elevated in order to prevent it from whirling around. The building maintenance unit has kept the situation under control while working at the highest point on the skyline. (Daily Mail Reporter, 2012).   Thus, it was confirmed that the speed of wind were kept within safe limits and the building was being alerted (Daily Mail Reporter, 2012).
