I Am Henry Ford
My name is Henry James Ford. In July 30th, of 1863, I was born. I was born in Greenfield Township, Michigan, on a farm owned by my family. Jane and Margaret were my 2 sisters. And I had 2 brothers: William and Robert. My most prized possession is a pocket watch that I got from my father a while back.
When I was about 20 years old, I began walking 4 miles to church every Sunday. I left home in 1879 to work as a machinist in Detroit at James F. Flower & Bros.. After a while, I transferred to Detroit Dry Dock Co. In 1182, I returned to Greenfield Township to work on the family farm. I became an adept at operating Westinghouse portable steam engines. I was hired to service steam engines. I then proceeded to study bookkeeping at Goldsmith, Bryant & Stratton Business College in Detroit.
I married my oh-so-wonderful wife, Clara Ala Bryant, back in 1888. We had our first, and only child together in 1893. His name is Edsel Ford. When I founded The Ford Motor Company in 1903, he eventually became the President and Chief Executive Officer. We sold Model T and Model A For cars, and that was how we made our money. That was how I made my money. My employees worked 5 days a week, and 8 hours a day, totaling to be 40 hours a week. They made 5 dollars each day that they worked. Another industry I took part in, was the Ford Airplane Company that came about during World War I. Ford Motors does business in any nation that the U.S. has any diplomatic relations. The subsidiaries were: Australia, Britain, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Europe, India, South Africa, Mexico, and the Philippines.
I wrote and published an anti-smoking book which is unusual as smoking is ubiquitous. I own a vacation residence in Ft. Myers, Florida, and in Richmond Hill, Georgia. I maintained an interest in auto-racing for a while. I was interested as both a builder, and a driver.
