I am currently in my first year of a foundation degree in health and social care. I am going to discuss the power point presentation I delivered to my tutor group as part of the degree requirements. I will discuss my feelings and thoughts and reflect on the knowledge I have gained from this experience. I will also discuss the feedback that was given to me by the 3 tutors who were sitting at the back of the room critiquing my work. The presentation was to be about a long term condition of a patient that I had looked after. I needed to choose a subject that I was to present as it is important to choose a condition that is interesting but not to in-depth as the presentation was to talk about the subject for 15 minutes with 5 minutes for questions. I will use the Gibbs reflective cycle (1998), see appendix 1. I will use this model as it will take me step by step from the beginning of my presentation to the end.
I had only ever done 1 power point presentation when studying for the   Diploma level 3 in health and social care last year, I had to talk for 8 minutes and a couple of minutes for questions so I knew I was going to be just as nervous as I was then. I was terrified of making a fool of myself we have a lot of younger students in the group whom I feel have more confidence and seem more up to date with technology than myself. I needed to decide on a long term condition that I had knowledge of and would feel relatively confident talking about. I work in an acute assessment area and see patients in the acute stage of their illness they do not stay in the acute unit they move onto a ward so I do not get to follow them through their complete care pathway. I started to get myself very stressed and knew this was going to be a big challenge for me. Managing and coping with stress had been identified by Rodham (2010), Negative self – evaluations, students tend to be hard on themselves when they fail to reach valued goals.
