Is Micromsg a Blessing or a Curse?
Ginny Han
Micromsg, known as WeChat, is a phenomenally popular application in China nowadays. Although it has a close resemblance to other instant message programs such as Fetion or QQ, it does have a unique function, which is the scanning and the identification of the QR Code (Quick Response Code). Personally I think Micromsg is a blessing to our society because of that useful function.
The “Scanning” function can be helpful for the companies since it provides a new way for advertisement. Concerning with sales and promotion, the advertisers do not need to distribute hundreds of brochures or leaflets any more, instead they can simply let their potential clients use the Micromsg app to scan their QR Codes, which will help them get access to a series of enterprise WeChat accounts. Thus they can build a reciprocal communication channel, since users can see the latest updates of the companies and even ask for more information by initiating a talk. It is much more efficient than the traditional advertising and quite environmentally friendly as well.
On the other hand, you may surprise to hear that manufacturers are not the only ones that benefit from this function, customers nowadays are able to find out whether certain products are authorized or not by simply scanning the QR Codes on the packages. People who used to worry about the credibility of the products can sigh with relief now. Although this little trick cannot be applied to every product right now, the society is expected to witness a market with more transparency.
All in all, I’m of the opinion that the Micromsg can be a pragmatic app for both advertisers and customs since the “Scanning” function actually create an opportunity for Chinese Social Media Marketing.
